Only a formal assessment of messaging networks can determine the risks an organization faces.”

Sendmail Introduces Sentrion DS Security Appliance To Protect Against Email Fraud
First Appliance Dedicated to Digitally Signing Email Using the DomainKeys Identified Mail Authentication Standard

EMERYVILLE, Calif. — November 1, 2007 — Sendmail, Inc., the leading provider of policy-centric solutions for securing and managing business communications, today announced Sentrion DKIM Signer™ (Sentrion DS), the latest product in its family of Sentrion email security appliances. Sentrion DS is a special purpose email security appliance that provides out-of-the-box protection from fraudulent email and phishing schemes using the recently Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) approved Email Authentication Internet Standard, DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM). Sentrion DS is designed for organizations of any size which need to quickly and easily begin digitally signing their email to help protect their brand from being used in fraudulent phishing schemes and to ensure deliverability of their legitimate email.

Major ISPs are adopting DKIM to help stem the tide of fraudulent email being delivered to their customers. ISPs employ DKIM to verify that a message from a particular sender is indeed from that sender. To ensure legitimate messages get through an ISP authentication check, senders must start digitally signing their outbound email. Sentrion DS provides businesses with an easy and cost effective way to digitally sign their outbound email using DKIM.

"To reduce email fraud and regain customers' trust in email, organizations need to consider adopting Email Authentication standards," said Brian Burke, Program Director Security Products, of IDC. "Critical elements for success include simplifying digital signing for senders, increasing cost effectiveness, and improving transparency. With these elements, businesses can start protecting their customers, partners, employees and corporate brand from email fraud."

The Sentrion DS plug-n-play configuration wizard makes setup quick and simple for any sized organization. Sentrion DS is typically deployed as a "last hop" gateway that automatically digitally signs all outbound email for any email network with no message delivery performance degradation on the existing messaging infrastructure and no impact to end users.

According to the Anti-Phishing Working Group, in June 2007 there were a total number of 31,709 unique phishing websites. During this period there was also an increase in the number of brokerages being phished that included both equities trading websites and full-service mutual fund companies. Financial Services continues to be the most targeted industry sector at 95.2% of all attacks in the month of June, 2007.

"As phishing attacks and email fraud continue to increase, it's critically important for individual businesses to be proactive and help tackle the problem head on," said Glen D. Vondrick, Executive Vice President at Sendmail. "In fact many large ISPs are already demanding that businesses which send high volumes of email start using Email Authentication. With Sentrion DS, we make it very easy for organizations to quickly, and cost effectively, begin digitally signing their email using the only approved Email Authentication Internet standard."

Sendmail is a principal author of the DKIM Email Authentication specification and is uniquely positioned to help businesses begin using Email Authentication. Over the past 3 years, Sendmail worked closely with other Internet leaders with a goal of developing an Email Authentication standard which would have the greatest impact on email fraud, and that could be widely deployed with relatively low implementation costs. The Internet Standard RFC 4871 approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force is the result of that effort and Sendmail continues to be at the forefront of making Email Authentication easily available to all businesses.

Sendmail's family of Sentrion MP security appliances and software also support DKIM and other Email Authentication schemes for both digital signing and verification. Sentrion DS will be generally available in Q4, 2007.
