Sendmail Milter (Sendmail Content Management API)
With the growth in email volumes and the prevalence of threats like spam, viruses and targeted attacks (Denial of Service, Directory Attacks), the need arose to easily expand the configuration of Sendmail to include threat protection and optimized performance.
The result was the Sendmail Content Management API (Sendmail Milter). Sendmail Milter was first implemented in version 8.10.x, improved in 8.11.x and officially supported in version 8.12.x. The API can be used on any OS that supports threads and was devised with the following goals:
- Safety/security
- Reliabilty
- Simplicity
- Performance
To date, over 60 Milter solutions (commercial and Open Source) are available.
